This workshop propose a step forward on the successful Workshop organized by the EU-IndiaGrid2 project at OGF30 in Brussels: Interoperation and Interoperability across European and Indian e-Infrastructures, and will be organised in cooperation by the CHAIN and the EU-IndiaGrid2 projects. The CHAIN project, (Co-ordination and Harmonisation of Advanced e-Infrastructures) started on 1st December 2010. Its main objectives are:
- Enhance the collaboration / coordination and harmonisation of European¬ and non-European e-Infrastructures Infrastructures in coherence with the EGI implementation
- Co-ordinate and support the dissemination towards politicians and stakeholders for long term sustainability of e-Infrastructures in the regions concerned.
- Actively promote the adoption of standards and interoperable middleware solutions among the different regions
The CHAIN and EU-IndiaGrid2 project signed a MoU with the goal of actively collaborating for the achievements of these objectives with the particular focus on the Asian region. The present Workshop insert in the framework of joint initiatives of the two projects addressed to accomplish these objectives.
Taking as a starting point the EU-India Workshop at OGF30 the proposed Workshop will review the status and will discuss the perspectives and future actions for e-Infrastructures cooperation in the Asia-Pacific area with respect to the European and worldwide context. The Workshop will cover aspects spanning from network to middleware and applications aspects addressing the relevant issues for concrete interoperation between the regional e-Infrastructures and the European ones.
Main themes
Network aspects - The third generation of the Trans-Eurasia Information Network (TEIN3) provides a dedicated high-capacity Internet network for research and education communities across Asia-Pacific. In particular 2010 saw the India joining TEIN3 and the opening of new 2.5 Gbps links from Europe to India and from India to Singapore
Opening new perspectives for e-Infrastructures high-speed connectivity in the region.
Regional e-Infrastructures - Nationwide and region-wide e-Infrastructures are consolidating in the Asia-Pacific region. The workshop will be the opportunity to review the status and set actions for further steps for worldwide cooperation.
Middleware solutions - Standard / interoperable middleware solutions represent an essential need for e-Infrastructures cooperation on the great challenges of worldwide virtual research communities. The workshop will aim at progressing in this cooperation with respect to the steps already taken in the context of the EGI Technical Forum in September 2010 and the OGF30 EU-India Interoperability Workshop in October 2010.

EU-IndiaGrid2 is driving the sustainability of EU-Indian Grid infrastructure by connecting with user communities in both Europe and India. EU-IndiaGrid2 is organising 4 thematic workshops during the lifetime of the project on Climate Change, Biology, High Energy Physics and Material Science; as well as an international conference in 2011 at ICTP, Trieste, Italy. Partners are also actively participating at international conferences presenting updates and achievements on the project.
