EU-IndiaGrid2 Conference on Role of e-infrastructure
for Climate Change research
16 - 20 May 2011, ICTP, Trieste, Italy
ICTP Agenda webpage - Speaker profiles- Post event report
Climate change is a worldwide concern and climate change studies are among the priorities in World-wide research programs. The increasing ability to understand complex, system-oriented phenomena such as climate change is strictly correlated with the need for increasing data and computing resources. The e-Infrastructures represent an innovative and unique approach to address this problem. They demonstrated to be an efficient way to share and access resources of different types which can effectively enhance the potential of scientific research and productivity.
This international conference will address the role of e-infrastructures toward a better understanding of climate change from the global to the regional scales. The main goal of this event is to expose the participating scientists and stakeholders to modern e-infrastructures (which includes an HPC and Grid environments) so that the potential provided by this infrastructure for climate change research can be assessed. It will provide the opportunity to enhance knowledge previously acquired and to acquire the core innovations emerging in this framework, for example the development of an European and worldiwide e-infrastructure for climate change applications driven by European Union projects such as Prace, EGI, EU-IndiaGRID2, EUMEDGRID-Support and others.

For more than 45 years, the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) has been a driving force behind global efforts to advance scientific expertise in the developing world.Founded in 1964 by the late Nobel Laureate Abdus Salam, ICTP seeks to accomplish its mandate by providing scientists from developing countries with the continuing education and skills that they need to enjoy long and productive careers. ICTP has been a major force in stemming the scientific brain drain from the developing world.ICTP alumni serve as professors at major universities, chairpersons of academic departments, directors of research centres and ministers of science and technology in nations throughout the developing world. Many of them have been recognized in their own countries and internationally for their contributions to science and science policy. The impact of ICTP extends well beyond the Centre's facilities to virtually every corner of the Earth.

EU-IndiaGrid2 is driving the sustainability of EU-Indian Grid infrastructure by connecting with user communities in both Europe and India. EU-IndiaGrid2 is organising 4 thematic workshops during the lifetime of the project on Climate Change, Biology, High Energy Physics and Material Science; as well as an international conference in 2011 at ICTP, Trieste, Italy. Partners are also actively participating at international conferences presenting updates and achievements on the project.
